CASTELÃO
CASTELÃO RED WINE
Castelão is the red grape variety with the longest tradition in the Tejo region, also known as “João de Santarém.” It reaches its finest expression when vinified in the traditional way (“à antiga”).
The Castelão Clássico from Quinta da Lapa is a red wine that highlights the pure expression of the Castelão grape, one of the most traditional in the Tejo, also called “João de Santarém.”
At Quinta da Lapa, the vineyard covers 72 hectares, divided into plots and varieties to optimize sun exposure and grape ripening.
The estate’s terroir features clay-limestone soils and benefits from strong temperature variations between day and night — factors that contribute to wines with freshness, concentration, and great aging potential.
